This page outlines AI tools as well as those that are available to RIT. As this landscape is constantly changing, please check back here often for updates. We’ll work to add more as we learn more.

When using AI for RIT purposes, we strongly recommend you use the RIT approved tools. The advantage of these tools are in the data protection (see below).

See https://www.rit.edu/its/generative-ai for details on the various tools available to the RIT community.

We know there are questions about certain popular AI tools and if they are available at RIT. A lot of these tools are being evaluated by the university for future consideration. In the meantime, please be cautious of using any tools that are not available through RIT with data protection. Most AI tools use what you put into them for training their models. This can expose your prompts, data, and solutions to others.

When using AI for RIT-related work, we strongly recommend using RIT-approved tools whenever possible. These tools provide better alignment with university guidance and offer stronger data protection than many publicly available AI services.

For details about AI tools currently available to the RIT community, visit the RIT ITS Generative AI page.

Please also review the Information Security Office Generative AI guidance.

If you are unsure where to start, begin with the RIT-approved tools listed above and choose the support option that best matches your use case: classroom and academic use, administrative work, or research-related questions.

Saunders faculty and staff are always welcome to start with Saunders Technical Support for questions about AI tools, appropriate use, or where to go for additional guidance. Visit the Saunders Technical Support wiki for contact information and support options.

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides resources for faculty using AI in teaching and learning. Visit CTL’s Generative AI guidance at https://www.rit.edu/teaching/generative-ai, or submit a CTL consulting request using the CTL Consulting Form.

Information and Technology Services (ITS) provides consulting for administrative uses of AI. To request assistance, submit the ITS Consulting Form.

CTL and ITS are not currently offering consulting specifically for AI use in research. This support area is expected to develop over time, so please check back for updates. In the meantime, Saunders faculty and staff may book an appointment with Saunders Technical Support.

Many popular AI tools are being evaluated by the university for possible future use, but they may not provide the same data protections as RIT-approved services. Before entering RIT information, student data, confidential business information, research materials, or unpublished work into any AI tool, confirm that the tool is approved for that type of use. Many public AI services may use submitted prompts and content to improve their models, which could expose information outside RIT’s protected environment.
