Accessing OneDrive via the web
To access OneDrive via the web, go to https://www.microsoft365.com/onedrive/?from=PortalHome. When logging in, be sure to use your RIT username followed by @rit.edu.
abcbbu@rit.edu
Do not use any other variation of your email address.
When you sign in, you’ll be prompted for your RIT password along with a DUO prompt.
Setting Up OneDrive on Windows 11
Start by searching for OneDrive in your Start menu

You will then be asked for your email address. Use your RIT username followed by @rit.edu.
abcbbu@rit.edu
Do not use any other variation of your email address.

Select Work or school for the account type.

You may be prompted a second time for Work or school account.

You will then be prompted for your RIT password and a DUO prompt.
You will then be asked for a file location. We recommend taking the default. Click Next.

The next step is to reconfigure a few of your folders to use OneDrive instead of local storage. We recommend not doing this because it will use up your OneDrive space. For backup, we recommend using CrashPlan instead of OneDrive.
Deselect the three folders and click Next.

The next series of windows will provide information about OneDrive. You can click Next on each screen.
You will then be prompted to see if you want the Mobile App. This is up to you. You can always select Later and set it up at another time.
Once the set up is done, you’ll see a button that says Open my OneDrive folder. Click that to finish the set up.
Once done, you will see your first name followed by – rit.edu in File Explorer. This is your OneDrive folder.

Adding a Shortcut to a shared file/folder to your OneDrive
If you have been shared files or a folder via the web, you can add a shortcut to that file/folder to your OneDrive account. This way, if you have it set up in File Explorer, it is easier to work with.
Start by going to the file/folder via the web interface.
Once you find the file/folder, click the three dots and select Add shortcut. From there, you can select where you want the shortcut to go.
